St. Bartholomew

St. Bartholomew

Bartholomew, his name meaning "son of Talmai", an ancient Hebrew name, was one of the Twelve Apostles as listed in the Synoptic Gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke. Philip and Bartholomew are mentioned together in these Gospels

Because he was not mentioned in the Gospel of John and Philip was mentioned paired with Nathanael, many scholars believe that Bartholomew is identified by John as Nathanael. After Philip was called by Jesus, he ran to find Nathanael. Philip told him that he had found the one whom Moses and the Prophets spoke about and that He was from Nazareth.
Nathanael asked, “Can anything good come from Nazareth?” and it was then that Philip prompted him, “Come and see”. Jesus characterized Nathanael as a man who didn’t have any contradictions; he was straightforward and in response, Nathanael expressed his belief that Jesus was truly the “Son of God”, the “King of Israel”.
Jesus promised that he witness greater things. Nathana mentioned again at the end e Gospel as one of the disciples appeared to after the Resurre truly a witness to greater things Bartholomew went on m to India after the Ascension of Pantaenus, as mentioned in R martyrology, discovered a comm in India who credited Bartholo with their conversion, leaving with the Gospel of Matthew wI in Hebrew. He preached in Ph Lycaonia, Mesopotamia, Persia, E and Armenia. Upon the conve of Polymius, the king of Arm Bartholomew was executed.
